Promoting safeguards for emergency services. Wireless carriers support Voice over Wi-Fi in order to offload the cellular networks and/or increase coverage area. Emergency calling on Wi-Fi networks poses challenges in this paradigm. This new TOPS Council effort will develop use cases for Wi-Fi emergency calling and survey the standards landscape to identify specific needs to support Wi-Fi emergency calling use cases. The proposed initiative will also determine work items for various ATIS committees and/or 3GPP contributions.
