ATIS Welcomes Brent Struthers as Director of the Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority

WASHINGTON, DC —  ATIS today announced that it has welcomed Brent Struthers as the new Director of the Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA), a critical body helping the industry achieve success in mitigating the problem of unwanted robocalling. Struthers is an established information and communications technology (ICT) industry veteran with a track record spanning more than two decades. Before joining ATIS he served at Neustar as their state government technical advocate on SHAKEN/STIR. Working with the IETF’s STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) protocol, the ATIS-SIP Forum Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs (SHAKEN) specification specifies a practical mechanism for authenticating calls. Attaching this “digital signature” will help consumers to once again trust their caller ID.

“The STI-GA is a collaborative industry-led initiative addressing one of the voice network’s most important challenges,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “Brent’s strengths in understanding the importance of the SHAKEN solution in helping to mitigate the leading cause of consumer complaints to the FCC, coupled with his advocacy skills and business acumen will be a true asset in advancing the GA’s mission.”

Earlier in his career, Struthers worked on a wide range of issues aligned with ATIS’ member-driven initiatives, including local number portability, thousands block pooling issues, SmartGrid, disaster recovery and more. ATIS welcomes Struthers and looks forward to his contributions toward advancing ICT industry transformation.
