ATIS to Provide Emerging Technologies Insight to Canadian Government

WASHINGTON — Jan. 5, 2017 —  ATIS today announced it is working with Canadian communication companies to enhance collaboration and share knowledge on unlawful caller ID spoofing and robocalling. While ATIS has been working on mitigation techniques for some time, the need for a unified, cross-border effort was highlighted by the recent FCC agreement with the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) that commits the two agencies to cooperation to combat unlawful robocalling.

“Technology knows no borders, and ATIS is where the ICT industry has come together to mitigate the challenges posed by caller ID spoofing and robocalling,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “Representing the North American ICT ecosystem, ATIS offers a technology-focused view that is providing both communications service providers and policy makers the tools they need to address the problem.”

ATIS’ expanded role with Canadian operators and the CRTC is similar to the one it plays with U.S. service providers and the FCC. Working uniquely at the intersection where technology impacts policy, ATIS is well-positioned and looking forward to this cross-border engagement for a common industry good.
