ATIS Joins Advanced Wireless Research Consortium

WASHINGTON — July 15, 2016 — The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) today announced it is participating as a charter member in the Advanced Wireless Research Consortium (AWR Consortium). Set into motion to maintain U.S. leadership in the next generation of mobile technology, the Consortium is a White House-driven initiative to advance the goals set by the National Science Foundation-led $400 million Advanced Wireless Research Initiative. The new program will enable the deployment and use of four city-scale testing platforms for advanced wireless research over the next decade.

“ATIS is central to creating standards and solutions that shape our North American wireless and mobile services and systems,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan M. Miller.  “Our 5G leadership advances the gains that have helped the U.S. lead the world in 4G deployment and will deliver a new network even better equipped to enable the next generation of digital innovators and entrepreneurs. We are well-positioned and excited to seize the opportunities the AWR Consortium’s groundbreaking research will deliver.”

In the Consortium, ATIS will deliver technical assistance for the design and deployment of mid- to large-scale advanced wireless testing platforms. ATIS will identify a wide range of potential opportunities for research to be conducted on the platforms of relevance to its members–150 of the leading North American information and communications technology (ICT) companies.
