Security
in a World of Open, Packet-based Networks
Download the Presentations (800K) |

Network
security is a showstopper when it comes to deployment of
IP-based networks and services. Systematic and consistent
security policies must be implemented in order to provide
security for customer networks, and between different networks.
Areas of security concern among providers include SS7 firewall,
packet filter¬ing, and optical control, and application-related
security issues, to include voice application, messaging,
firewall/NAT translation and transparency. This panel presentation
will offer perspectives of both service providers and vendors
on network security, and how operators are successfully
safeguarding their networks |

IPTV
programming, video content and digital rights management
are areas of intense scrutiny for service providers as they
prepare to compete aggressively with cable TV. As carriers
establish and announce content acquisition arrangements,
numerous issues abound. How comfortable are content providers
with the security and functionality of IPTV technology?
How will carriers manage content in a manner that satisfies
content providers? How will IPTV technology move secured
content across the network? How are piracy concerns being
addressed? This informative session will reveal how content
providers and service providers are forging relationships
and addressing technology concerns as IPTV moves forward. |

WIMAX:
Will Carriers Take the Leap?
Download the Presentations (5.3MB) |

WIMAX
is being eyed with great anticipation by global service
providers as a promising and powerful high-speed, fixed
wireless broadband service. Certified WIMAX products are
expected to enter the marketplace before the end of 2005,
shortly followed by the certification of “mobile”
WIMAX products. While industry-wide standards and certification
should drive cost down, other technology challenges remain,
to include spectrum availability which, if unresolved, could
adversely impact equipment costs and interoperability. This
session will explore both the technology and the business
case for WIMAX – offering both the service provider
and vendor perspective on this new and exciting technology. |

Services in the VoIP Environment
Download the Presentations (900K) |

Interconnected
VoIP providers are now required by the FCC to provide reliable
E911 emergency services as a standard feature, rather than
an optional feature among interconnected VoIP service offerings.
Interconnection agreements with carriers or with third party
E911 service providers are options toward addressing the
Commission’s ruling. This session will explore the
technical issues surrounding reliable E911 services in the
VoIP environment, as well as identify the deployment options
available to VoIP providers. |

Multimedia System: The Key to Convergence
Download the Presentations (1.7MB) |

IP
Multimedia System (IMS) is gaining rapid industry support
as the architecture of choice that will set the course for
the evolution of the converged Next-Gen Network. Launched
by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to support
3G wireless services, standards organizations such as the
Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS)
and the European Standards Telecommunications Institute
(ETSI) are supporting the implementation of IMS for purposes
of “network agnostic” service delivery both
inside and across wireless and wireline networks. This session
will explore how service providers will define the migration
path for IMS, and ultimately trial and deploy IMS-based
services. |

Building
the Profitable Carrier Class Ethernet Service
Download the Presentations (2.7MB) |
| |
The
advantages of Ethernet services are cost-effectiveness,
operations and customer management simplicity, and the ease
with which carriers can achieve service interoperability.
While Ethernet is a mature technology in many respects,
the market for Ethernet Services is expected to double in
size over two years, as standards organizations and service
providers narrowly define Carrier Class Ethernet Service.
This session will explore the attributes of Carrier Class
Ethernet, and identify the business, residential and mobile
service opportunities for Ethernet technology. |
