Update on the Grounding Section of the Guide for the Application of Surge Protective Devices for Low Voltage AC Power Circuits

Wednesday, March 26, 2014
2:15 – 3:00 p.m.

The 2007 version of the IEEE Std. C62.72, Guide for the Application of Surge Protective Devices for Low Voltage AC Power Circuits, provided for a significant change to the section on grounding for SPDs - including the "30 meter rule" for earthing. A complete revision has been accepted by the 3.6.6 Working Group, which tends to downplay the impact of earthing on SPDs and emphasize the correct geometry of the bonding wiring relative to the equipment to be protected.

This session will discuss the significant issues involved in getting to the new proposed and accepted grounding content and its impact upon the SPDC and grounding communities.
