Grounding approaches have changed and expanded in scope over the years, first to address technical issues with analogue equipment, then to address performance issues with hardware and finally in response to social/economic issues with theft. Other key grounding concerns include changing technologies and lightning strikes and intensity, may it be in a substation, production plant or isolated telecom site at the top of a mountain. Developing ways to reduce telecommunications companies’ liability for these risks is essential. This session shares Hydro-Quebec’s successes in addressing some of the key risks grounding issues present.
