This presentation is intended to provide a background on why Ethernet protection may be needed in terms of different deployments. It will cover the latest updates on standards and work within the major standards bodies (ATIS-NEP, ITU-T, IEEE TSTC & IEC) that are working on this issue for reliability as well as personal safety and protection of property.
This presentation will focus on a review of the code making process and in particular the results of the Change Proposal meetings held in September and October of 2013. The resulting changes expected to the NESC looking forward to the 2017 code will also be reviewed along with the underlying business and technical drivers.
