Stephen Hayes is the chairman of the 3GPP systems group (3GPP-SA). The 3GPP-SA group is responsible for all requirements, architectural, system and coordination issues for GSM, UMTS, and LTE/EPS systems and networks.
Mr. Hayes is a Principal Engineer at Ericsson and has been extensively involved in GSM and subsequent systems for the past 10 years. He chaired the 3GPP protocols group during the development of IMS and has been instrumental in achieving the cooperation between the standards bodies to gain it's acceptance worldwide. He has been heavily involved in the Common IMS work and the development of multimedia capabilities within 3GPP.

Mr. Hayes has participated and held various leadership positions within the ATIS committees including WTSC (Wireless Technology and Systems Committee). He has written various articles for IEEE communications and holds numerous patents in the area of telecommunications. Mr Hayes received his Bachelors Degree from Texas Christian University in 1977 and his Masters from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1980.
