Kuntal Chowdhury the vice president of standards and technology for Starent Networks. He is responsible for standards participation and technology evolution at Starent Networks. In this role, he helps in setting the strategic direction of the company. He also provides guidance to product management, engineering, business development, marketing, and sales teams on technology and strategic issues. Prior to this position, he held served as Director of Technology for the Verizon account at Starent.

Prior to joining Starent, Chowdhury held various senior positions at Nortel and Motorola in the technology ladder. He started his career as a systems engineer in India for a wireless service provider in 1993. During his 15 years of service in the wireless industry, he gained expertise in network deployment, radio planning and optimization, software development, systems engineering, systems integration, standards, research in technology evolution and strategic sales.

Chowdhury held leadership positions in 3GPP2 and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). He authored numerous RFCs, drafts, and contributions in 3GPP, WiMAX Forum, IETF and NGMN. He is involved in Enhanced Packet Core (EPC) specification development in 3GPP. He also leads the interworking efforts in WiMAX Forum for interworking with other systems like 3GPP and 3GPP2. He holds numerous patents of which a great majority of them are being deployed today.

Chowdhury holds a bachelor of engineering degree in electrical and electronics from NIT in Surat (India), and a master’s degree in telecommunications from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
