Abbreviation for binary digit. 1. A character used to represent one of the two digits in the numeration system with a base of two, and only two, possible states of a physical entity or system. 2. In binary notation either of the characters 0 or 1. 3. A unit of information equal to one binary decision or the designation of one of two possible and equally likely states of anything used to store or convey information.
