ATIS Applauds Re-Elected Chairman of 3GPP Technical Specification Group on Service & Systems Aspects

March 17, 2009, Washington, DC - The Alliance for Telecommunication Industry Solutions (ATIS) today recognizes Stephen Hayes, Principal Engineer with Ericsson Inc., on his third election to Chair the 3rd Generation Partnership Project’s (3GPP), Technical Specification Group, Service & Systems Aspects (TSG SA). ATIS is 3GPP’s North American Organizational Partner, and Hayes serves as an ATIS delegate to 3GPP.

As TSG SA’s Chairman, Hayes is responsible for overseeing 3GPP’s network and system architecture, as well as its on-going inter-organization coordination. In this capacity, Hayes is instrumental in achieving cooperation within 3GPP’s structure, and as a liaison with other global standards bodies, he plays an essential role in 3GPP’s continued success.

“As a leader, Stephen Hayes has been instrumental in enabling 3GPP’s TSG SA’s past accomplishments and achievements,” said Susan Miller, ATIS President and CEO. “His re-election ensures the TSG SA’s continued success and reaffirms 3GPP’s commitment to tomorrow’s evolutionary technologies.”

Mr. Hayes’ election concludes the 2009 3GPP technical group leader elections held in Biarritz, France.

About 3GPP
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a collaboration agreement that was established in December 1998. The collaboration agreement brings together a number of telecommunications standards bodies known as “Organizational Partners.” The current Organizational Partners are ARIB, ATIS, CCSA, ETSI, TTA, and TTC. The establishment of 3GPP was formalized in December 1998 by the signing of the “The 3rd Generation Partnership Project Agreement”. www.3GPP.org

A permanent project support group, called the “Mobile Competence Centre (MCC),” has been established to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of 3GPP. The MCC is based at the ETSI headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France.
