Two ATIS IPTV Standards Establish Protocols for Management and Security

June 12 , 2008, Washington, DC - ATIS announced today the release of two technical and operations standards for IPTV, Remote Management of Devices in the Consumer Domain for IPTV Services ( ATIS-0800009) and Secure Download and Messaging Interoperability Specification ( ATIS-0800014).

“The secure and reliable delivery and download of entertainment video and related services requires management of many different aspects of the home network,” stated Susan Miller, president and CEO of ATIS. “The architecture and protocols recently put forth by the ATIS IIF help ensure integrity and authenticity of content within an interoperable environment.”

Remote Management of Devices in the Consumer Domain for IPTV Services ( ATIS-0800009) builds upon requirements set forth in earlier ATIS IIF standards as well as DSL Forum Technical Requirements (TR)-069. The Remote Management document addresses IPTV architecture, focusing on its ability to provision the Delivery Network Gateway (DNG) and IPTV Terminal Function (ITF) and collect information about the DNG and ITF remotely. The document also covers remote Device Management (DM) architecture, software downloading, provisioning of parameters, status monitoring, remote diagnostics, fault recovery, and security management.

The second document, Secure Download and Messaging InteroperabilitySpecification ( ATIS-0800014), proposes a method for the secure download of the Digital Rights Management (DRM) operating code as well as an approach to establish a secure environment for the installation and updates for middleware and the applications for the IPTV Receiving Device. Through establishment of a certification process for security profiles and a chain of trust, the specification also puts forth the IPTV Security Solution/Authentication (ISS/A), a security solution for the transmission and receipt of messages, including Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages. The Secure Download and Messaging Interoperability Specification is the first standard published in a suite of several forthcoming IPTV Security Solution specifications.

The Remote Management of Devices in the Consumer Domain for IPTV Services ( ATIS-0800009) and Secure Download and Messaging Interoperability Specification ( ATIS-0800014) standards are available on the ATIS Document Center at: https://www.atis.org/docstore/default.aspx.
