Kujan is involved on behalf of Alcatel-Lucent in a landmark standards project at ATIS which is examining energy efficiency as it relates to telecommunications equipment. More specifically, this effort will result in metrics for purposes of comparing product energy utilization for equipment purchase and network planning decisions. This activity is taking place within the ATIS Energy Reporting Metrics Ad Hoc (ERM) of the ATIS Network Interface, Power, and Protection Committee (NIPP).

Kujan was recognized by the Standards Engineering Society (SES) during the U.S. celebration of World Standards Day held yesterday evening in Washington, D.C. World Standards Day is held annually to acknowledge the significance of standards in society and the economy. This year’s World Standards Day Paper Competition invited paper entries demonstrating how standards-developing organizations are encouraging and creating global consensus for the economic and social benefit of the “global village.” A copy of Kujan’s winning paper is available on the ATIS Web site at www.atis.org

Currently a distinguished Member of the Technical Staff with Alcatel-Lucent, CDMA Wireless, Kujan started her standards work in the ATIS NIPP Committee in 2003, and served as Vice-Chair of the committee’s Network Physical Protection Subcommittee for three years. Recent work of the subcommittee includes a published ATIS standard that addresses material and finish specifications impacted by the European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Act (ATIS-PP-0600009.2007).

Kujan also serves as a liaison to the Environmental Engineering Committee of the European Telecommunication Standards Institute and the Climate Change Working Group of the Global e-Sustainability Initiative. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT and her Master of Science and Doctorate from Cornell University.
