ATIS to Host ITU-T for Joint Workshop on NGN Standards
February 16, 2006, Washington – ATIS will host a joint workshop with the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) to discuss ongoing standardization activities for Next Generation Networks (NGN). The workshop will take place March 19-20, 2006, at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Both ATIS and the ITU-T – as well as other standards organizations around the world – are developing NGN standards to increase quality and service features for users, independent of the underlying transport technology.
The workshop’s objectives will be to identify standards work needed to support ongoing viable businesses for all parties as NGN becomes reality and to enhance ITU-T and ATIS cooperation to further coordinate NGN standardization. A particular emphasis of the workshop will be NGN requirements and standards objectives from a North American perspective and the relationship of these with the global standardization work of the ITU-T.
The workshop will feature working sessions covering: Implementable NGN Architecture and Capabilities; NGN Service Enablers, including IPTV; Signaling and Control, including IMS and SIP; and Interconnection, Interworking, and Evolution.
