Defining Next: ATIS and Telephony Collaborate on NGN Supplement

Issue Explores NGN Architecture, Applications and Services

June 6, 2005, Washington and SUPERCOMM – ATIS and Telephony magazine announce “Next-Gen Networks,” a special 16-page supplement to Telephony’s June issue, available today to subscribers, SUPERCOMM attendees and online at www.telephonyonline.com or www.atis.org.

“With the introduction of its NGN Framework last November, ATIS began to delineate the precise components of the NGN architecture,” said Jason Meyers, editor-in-chief for Telephony. “This supplement, a collaborative effort between Telephony and ATIS, provides even more clarification to exactly what defines the next-gen network.”

The supplement explores and analyzes many of the critical elements of the NGN standardization efforts and sheds more light on the NGN concept. Interviews with senior executives from ATIS member companies – both carriers and vendors – involved in the creation of its NGN Framework probe the challenges the industry faces as it defines NGN and tackles issues such as security, reliability, quality of service and application development.

“Negotiating NGN is key for the telecommunication industry’s future, not just in North America, but if we are to achieve global consistency,” said Susan Miller, ATIS president and CEO. “This special publication from Telephony provides an excellent resource for anyone in the industry to gain a clear understanding of the issues that are vital to achieving business and wide-scale deployment needs of telecommunications companies.”

The supplement is sponsored in part by: AMDOCS, AT&T, BCE, BellSouth, Cisco Systems, Motorola, Nortel Networks, SBC Communications, Siemens, Sprint, Symmetricom, Trendium and Verizon.
