ACTA Gears Up for 2005 Elections

Company Voting Reps Registration Due May 27

May 12, 2005 – Washington, DC – ATIS announced today that the Administrative Council for Terminal Attachments (ACTA) has issued a Call for Nominations for Interest Segment Representatives and Council Chair. The current Council members’ terms end in June.

All industry companies are eligible to vote in their respective Interest Segment election. Authorized voting representatives from companies and organizations need to register by May 27, 2005, to participate in this year’s elections. Specific voter registration and council nomination information can be found online at www.part68.org/about_elections.cfm.

The nomination and voting process for the Interest Segment Representatives and alternates will take place in June, followed by nominations and election of the Chair prior to the July 20, 2005, ACTA meeting. The six Interest Segments are: Local Exchange Carriers, Interexchange Carriers, Network Equipment Manufacturers, Terminal Equipment Manufacturers, Testing Laboratories, and Other Interested Parties.

Established in 2000, the ACTA is an open committee that was established to take over Part 68 duties and responsibilities privatized by the FCC, with responsibility for maintaining technical criteria for connecting terminal equipment to the telephone network (Part 68). Its two-fold mission is: to act as the clearinghouse for technical standards for terminal equipment developed by ANSI-accredited standards development organizations; and to operate and maintain a database of equipment approved as compliant with the published technical criteria. ATIS serves as the secretariat to the ACTA and co-sponsors the Council in conjunction with TIA.
