ATIS Renames Its T1 Technical Subcommittees
August 11, 2004, Washington, D.C. – ATIS – the leader in standards development – announced today that it has renamed its former T1 technical subcommittees. The new committee names reflect a decision by ATIS in 4Q 2003 to restructure the former subcommittees into full ATIS standards committees, and to more easily identify and promote the nature of standards work each committee performs.
The new committees are:
- the ATIS Network Performance, Reliability and Quality of Service Committee, formerly T1A1;
- the ATIS Network Interface, Power, and Protection Committee, formerly T1E1;
- the ATIS Telecom Management and Operations Committee, previously the T1M1 OAM&P;
- the ATIS Wireless Technologies and Systems Committee, formerly T1P1;
- the ATIS Optical Transport and Synchronization Committee, previously known as T1X1.
Also affected is T1S1, which was split into two separate ATIS committees: the ATIS Packet Technologies and Systems Committee and the ATIS Protocol Interworking Committee. Earlier this year the T1M1 O&B subcommittee became part of the ATIS Ordering and Billing Forum.
In 2003, the ATIS Board of Directors conducted a year-long analysis of the structure of ATIS and its committees. The results led to an organization restructuring in November 2003, aligning ATIS committees under ten “functional groups” designed to foster greater collaboration among ATIS Committees, and to more ably support priority standards work launched by the ATIS Technology and Operations (TOPS) Council – a standing committee of the ATIS Board of Directors. The TOPS Council is responsible for identifying the communications industry’s most pressing technology priorities, and coordinating and executing necessary priority standards work that supports the rollout of new products and services into the marketplace.
