Officers to Identify Critical Telecom Security Solutions at ATIS

January 17, 2003, Washington, D.C. - Senior executives
from some of the world's largest communications companies will
be among the participants at the Alliance for Telecommunications
Industry Solutions' (ATIS) Security Summit entitled, "Security
of Service Provider Infrastructure in the Era of Convergence."
The Summit will determine the technical and operational standards
necessary for the continued protection of U.S.-based communications
networks, and is scheduled for February 4-5, 2003, in Washington,
D.C.
Ross Ireland, Senior Executive Vice President - Services, SBC
Communications, and Chairman, ATIS Board of Directors, will moderate
the panel discussion entitled, "Service Provider Perspectives
on Security," on Day One of the Summit. This session will
identify how interoperable and scalable security solutions can
be provided and maintained within multi-service provider networks.
Panel participants include Bill Smith, President - Interconnection
Services & CTO, BellSouth Telecommunications, Mark Wegleitner,
Senior Vice President - Technology & CTO, Verizon, Fred Chang,
President - Technology Strategy, SBC Operations, Dr. Arthur Deacon,
Vice President - Network Operations, Service Assurance and Chief
Compliance Officer, AT&T Corporation, Bruce Johnson, Senior
Vice President - Operations & Engineering, VeriSign, Ken Hunter,
Senior Solutions Architect, Agilent Technologies, and Ramu Potarazu,
President and COO, Intelsat.
Susan M. Miller, President and CEO of ATIS will moderate the
panel discussion entitled, "Government Perspectives on Security,"
on Day One of the Summit. This session will identify the increasingly
critical roles that enterprise, access and core infrastructure
networks play in addressing user, government and commercial needs.
Ms. Miller will be joined by Howard Schmidt, Vice Chair of President
Bush's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board, William Ruhl,
CEO, D&E Communications and member of the National Security
Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC), and Brent Greene,
Deputy Manager, National Communications System.
Summit technical sessions will convene on Day One and Two to
examine how Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) can continue
to develop technical solutions for end-users, enterprises, service
providers, manufacturers and network operators to utilize in addressing
specific security threats.
SDOs participating in the program will include ATIS' Standards
Committee T1; Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF); IPv6 Forum;
ATM Forum; Multiservice Switching Forum; and the Telecommunications
Industry Association (TIA). Corporate Sponsors for the ATIS Security
