ATIS Announces Publication of "Signaling for VoIP" Summit Report

September 27, 2002, Washington, D.C. - The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) - the leader in communications standards development - today announced publication of the "Signaling for Voice over Internet Protocol Summit Report" (SVoIP Summit Report) detailing the content of all presentations made at the August 13-14 Summit. The report, prepared by ATIS and its Standards Committee T1, also contains a full compilation of all VoIP work underway in the twelve Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) that participated in the Summit.

The SVoIP Summit provided the technical and business requirements of the leading telecommunications carriers as presented by Bill Smith, Chief Product Development & Technology Officer, BellSouth; Eva Low, Vice President for New Technology Introduction, SBC Communications; Dr. Eberhard Wunderlich, Labs Development Vice President for AT&T; and Dennis Francis, Vice President for Development, Nextel.

The technical sessions during the Summit stimulated interchange between participating SDOs to encourage a coordinated set of standards for deployment of toll-quality VoIP on multiservice IP-based networks in terms of architecture, service requirements, interfaces, gateway functions, interconnection requirements, security requirements, end-to-end performance requirements, and protocol interworking. In addition to addressing the work plan surrounding VoIP for specific participating SDOs, the Summit explored views on the broader questions for the standardization process.

ATIS and its Committee T1 believe that ongoing collaboration by each of the participating SDOs will be essential to deployment of VoIP services. The SVoIP Summit report contains a matrix of standards work in progress, and additional information provided by each participating organization that all participants will use as ATIS, its Committee T1, and the twelve participating organizations in the SVoIP Summit proceed with efforts to standardize deployment of carrier-quality VoIP service. ATIS intends to update the report's work in progress matrix three times a year.

The SVoIP Report can be purchased for $100 and the summit presentations CD-ROM can be purchased for $150. Both are available via the ATIS Document Center at www.atis.org/atis/docstore/search.asp?doc_name=SVoIP.
