ATIS Signs Cooperation Agreement with the OFDM Forum Recognizing Collaboration in Standards Development for the Wireless Industry

January 28, 2002, Washington, D.C. - The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) and the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) Forum recently signed a Cooperation Agreement, formalizing a collaborative relationship that will facilitate industry understanding of OFDM Technology and issues facing OFDM standardization. Specifically, the two groups will exchange information through their respective committee meetings, forums and Web sites.

Susan Miller, president and CEO of ATIS and Peter Nurse, Executive Director of the OFDM Forum, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. "This agreement supports a collaboration between ATIS and the OFDM Forum for the exchange of information and cooperation in future standards development activities," said Susan Miller. "ATIS welcomes the opportunity to work with the OFDM Forum in achieving its goal of one global standard."

The OFDM technology is part of the next generation of high-speed wireless data products and services that can be utilized for corporate and consumer use. OFDM is also at the foundation of the IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.16 and ETSI BRAN HIPERLAN/2 and HIPERMAN standards.

The OFDM Forum was established to bring together industry leaders from around the world to discuss and debate the need for harmonized standards as they relate to OFDM technology and its use. The OFDM Forum has as its goal to achieve a single, global OFDM standard for use around the world.

"The uses for OFDM technology are far-reaching because of the efficient use of spectrum. Adopting a single standard will help market penetration of wireless devices which will ultimately benefit the product developer, the manufacturer, the retailers, and the consumer," said Peter Nurse.

More information regarding ATIS' cooperative arrangement with the OFDM Forum can be obtained by contacting Ed Hall at ehall@atis.org.
