Digit Wireless Joins the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions

September 6, 2001, Washington, D.C. -- The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) announced today that Digit Wireless, a telecommunications technology development and licensing company, has joined as a member company.

Digit Wireless is the developer of Fastap™ technology, a patented keypad configuration that allows consumers to select a different key for each letter, number and basic punctuation mark. The Fastap keypad design fits within the same area as a current dialing pad, and is one-third the size of a credit card and is intended for cellular phones and wireless devices.

The Fastap technology utilizes a matrix of raised and lowered keys that provide the finger or thumb space to access any character with a single press. Raised buttons are distant from adjacent buttons, and the valleys between them form additional keys. Pressing on any button or in any valley produces a unique output that is clearly identified, and instantly available. To access a character, including punctuation characters, the user simply presses the character he or she wants. The Fastap technology has issued domestic patents and several pending international patent filings.

Digit Wireless plans to become active in the ATIS-sponsored TTY Forum, which develops alternative telecommunications solutions for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, as well as those with speech or language disabilities, with access to telephone and wireless communications, through the use of a TTY device.

"Digit is looking forward to taking part in the ATIS-sponsored TTY forum and introducing its product to the TTY community," said Chris Hare, vice president of business development at Digit Wireless.

"Ensuring adequate access to telecommunications services for the deaf, hard of hearing and the disabled is an important priority at Digit Wireless. Our involvement with the TTY Forum will allow us to consult with TTY experts in the forum and to demonstrate that the features of our Fastap product include TTY compatibility," added Hare.

"The continuing explosion of new telecommunications technologies is producing new and innovative solutions for every segment of the industry's consumer market," said Ed Hall, ATIS vice president for technology development. "We are pleased that companies like Digit Wireless are coming to the table at the TTY Forum because the industry needs solutions that effectively meet the needs of the deaf and hard-of-hearing, and the disabled. We look forward to Digit Wireless' participation," added Hall.

Digit Wireless is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and operates in New York, Washington DC, London and Tokyo. Privately funded, Digit is managed, backed and advised by a team of wireless industry and user interface experts.
