Wireless Outage Reporting Issues to be Addressed During June 21 ATIS INFO-SYNC Program
June 14, 2001, Washington, D.C. - The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) will present a program on "Wireless Network Outage Reporting" on June 21 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, via ATIS INFO-SYNC -- a "real time" web conference program. Speakers will include AT&T Network Vice President P.J. Aduskevicz; Gary Pellegrino, president of CommFlow Resources Inc.; and Bernie Farrell, manager of the National Coordinating Center for Telecommunications at the National Communications System (NCS).
| About the Program: | "Wireless Outage Reporting Issues" will focus on developments by the industry to develop outage reporting techniques similar to those required of wireline service providers by the FCC. The FCC has asked its advisory body, the Network Reliability and Interoperability Council (NRIC) to recommend reporting for non-wireline service providers (e.g., CMRS (Commercial Mobile Radio Service), satellite, cable, data networking, & ISP (Internet Service Providers). Specifically, should they use the same mandatory outage report as the traditional wireline service providers use to report to the FCC under CFR 63.100 requirements? In the interest of deregulation, NRIC participants redirected the approach towards a voluntary trial as opposed to a mandatory consideration. The FCC agreed with a voluntary one-year trial, which commenced on August 1, 2000 and remanded to the NRIC to kick off the letter starting the voluntary trial with reporting to the NCS/NCC (National Communications System/National Coordinating Center) for Telecommunications. Presently, the trial end date is proposed for an extension to November 15, 2001. This ATIS INFO-SYNC program will provide you with the background and information regarding the process to assist in your decision and participation. |
