June 4, 2001, Washington, D.C. - The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) announced today that Timothy Jeffries will serve as director of the Administrative Council for Terminal Attachments (ACTA)/Part 68 and Technology Development.
In a Report and Order in December 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) directed that ACTA be formed, assigning ATIS and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the role of ACTA co-sponsors. ACTA is an open organization responsible for adopting technical criteria for terminal equipment and maintaining a database of equipment that meets the criteria.
"Tim Jeffries will bring critical support and expertise to ACTA as it gets underway," said Ed Hall, ATIS' vice president for Technology Development. "His background in engineering along with his experience in program management and standards development are enormous assets that will significantly support the council's work."
Jeffries joins the ATIS management staff after serving the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) as its director of certification programs. While at CTIA, Jeffries was responsible for redesigning the current wireless terminal certification program for the wireless industry, and managing the wireless industry's product certification program, as well as product certification programs for Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS), ANSI-136, cdmaOne, and GSM-1900 terminal units.
Prior to his work at CTIA, Jeffries managed and conducted product evaluations and reported compliance to federal and independent standardization agencies and bodies. His telecommunications expertise includes: FCC Rules and Regulations 47 CFR, Part 15, 22, 24, and 68; FCC Telecommunications Certifying Bodies (TCB), FCC Certification procedures, and the international Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA); Second generation wireless technologies, EDGE, GAIT, cdma2000, GSM-1900, GPRS. ; and third generation wireless development.
