Optical Hierarchical Interfaces Subcommittee

Mission

OHI prepares technical reports related to telecommunications network technology pertaining to optical network hierarchical structures. The interfaces are between United States Telecommunications Networks, some of which are associated with other North American Telecommunications Networks. OHI focuses on those functions and characteristics necessary to define and establish the interconnection of optical signals comprising network transport. OHI also prepares recommendations on related subject matter under consideration in various North American and international standards organizations.

Scope

The scope of the work undertaken by OHI includes the concept, definition, analysis and documentation of signal characteristics, tributary mappings, and other overhead functionality necessary to ensure the reliable interconnection of optical network transport signals between carriers. All theoretical and analytical work necessary to support the documented results is generated or coordinated by OHI. This requires close liaison with other OPTXS Subcommittees and approved liaison with other ATIS Committees.
