ATIS 3GPP

As part of its global leadership role, ATIS is the North American founding Organizational Partner of 3GPP. 3GPP unites seven standard development organizations (ARIB, ATIS, CCSA, ETSI, TSDSI, TTA, TTC), known as “Organizational Partners (OPs),” and provides their members with a stable environment to produce the specifications that define 3GPP technologies, including LTE and LTE-Advanced. Since the completion of the first LTE and the Evolved Packet Core specifications, 3GPP has become the focal point for mobile systems beyond 3G. Currently, it is moving the industry into the 5G future, an area in which ATIS has North American leadership.

Your organization can be part of 3GPP’s work through ATIS membership. Much of the work to normalize or integrate 3GPP specifications into the North American market takes place in ATIS’ Wireless Technologies and Systems Committee (WTSC).

3GPP specifications and studies are contribution driven, by ATIS member companies, in Working Groups and at the Technical Specification Group level. 3GPP’s Technical Specification Groups include:

  • Radio Access Networks (RAN)
  • Service & Systems Aspects (SA)
  • Core Network & Terminals (CT)

ATIS member companies hold important leadership positions in 3GPP, including Chairing the RAN and SA Working Groups. ATIS also holds Vice Chair positions on the RAN, SA and CT Working Groups.

Gain 3GPP Membership—Through ATIS

Your organization can participate in all of the 3GPP meetings, receive and contribute documents into the meetings, take part in the decision-making process, and hold leadership positions by becoming an ATIS 3GPP Individual Member. Member companies must be affiliated with one of the 3GPP OPs, such as ATIS, to be eligible to become a 3GPP Individual Member.
