Susan is President and Chief Executive Officer of ATIS and has been in this role since 1999. She is credited with bringing an innovative, market-driven approach to the development of solutions and standards for the ICT industry and as a result, continues to expand ATIS' reach and activities. Under her leadership, ATIS redefined the manner in which ICT business priorities are identified, and technical and operational solutions and standards are subsequently developed. Connecting the industry's direction and ATIS members' business priorities with needed solutions and standards has attracted a blue-ribbon Board of Chief Technology Officers, Chief Information Officers and senior executives.
Prior to her appointment as President, she served as the Association's Vice President and General Counsel. In that capacity, she played an integral role in setting the direction and ultimate evolution as to where the organization is today. Before joining ATIS, Susan practiced telecommunications law at Weil, Gotshal and Manges.
In addition to her role at ATIS, Susan has served in a number of other roles including the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Board of Directors; the International Engineering Consortium Advisory Council; member of the FCC's Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC); and the Institute for Teaching and Learninbeg Excellence at Oklahoma State University. She has also served on the U.S. delegation to the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and ATIS' delegation to the Global Standards Collaboration. Susan is a graduate of Dickinson College and Catholic University's Columbus School of Law.
In 2011, Susan made Billing and OSS World's List of the 25 Most Influential. Previously, she was recognized by FierceTelecom as one of the "2010 Top Women in Wireline".
As General Counsel for ATIS, Thomas Goode provides legal support for the organization and its committees, forums and “Incubators,” and is also responsible for developing public policy positions in support of organization’s goals.
Tom previously worked for technology companies developing systems to provide broadband communications over powerline, including ONELINE AG. At ONELINE, Tom served as General Counsel and was in charge of developing North American operations. In this role, he managed legal, regulatory and business development activities and worked to develop partnerships with utilities in the US and abroad.
Tom has also served as Associate General Counsel with the United Telecom Council. In this role, he represented critical infrastructure industries before Congress and federal regulatory bodies. Tom helped to develop the association’s business development and global divisions, where he worked with international utilities seeking to develop new telecommunications businesses.
Tom has written numerous articles on telecommunications matters and on the entrance of nontraditional players, including utilities and pipelines, into the telecommunications and information technologies markets. He has been a frequent presenter at US and international conferences on telecommunications business opportunities.
Tom has a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland.
ATIS Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations since 2008. In this role, Lauren Layman is responsible for ATIS’ marketing, membership and corporate communications.
Prior to joining ATIS, Lauren worked in marketing positions for both established and emerging companies throughout the United States and Europe. She served as a vice president of Cable & Wireless Inc. and as general manager of Aloha Teleconferencing in Hawaii and worked in product management for Colgate Palmolive SA in Portugal. As co-founder and partner of an international marketing consulting firm, Lauren has worked with early-stage wireless, software and Internet startups on all aspects of marketing and business development.
Lauren earned a B.A. in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in international business studies from the University of South Carolina.
As Vice President of Technology and Solutions, Mike Nawrocki focuses on strategic initiatives to advance ATIS members’ business and technology priorities.
Bringing extensive telecommunications strategy experience and a service provider perspective, Mike provides ATIS direction on emerging technology trends as well as next generation technologies and networks. Before ATIS, he most recently served as Director – Standards & Industry Groups for Verizon Technology Strategy & Planning. At Verizon, Nawrocki also served as a Principal member of the Technical Staff and as a Fellow for New Services Technology in the Verizon CTO Organization. His extensive career with major service providers includes working in network planning and engineering positions both at AT&T and Bell Atlantic. His leadership has also demonstrated through service on the MoCA Board of Directors, FCC CSRIC working groups, the FCC Network Reliability Council as well as other key industry technical and regulatory fora. At ATIS he serves as a key policy interface with the FCC and other agencies.
Mike holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering – Communications from the George Washington University School of Engineering & Applied Science. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
As Vice President of Finance and Operations, Kelly is responsible for directing the strategic financial and operational leadership of ATIS.
Kelly has worked for ATIS since 2000, and served previously as the Director of Information Services & Facilities Management. Prior to ATIS, Kelly worked ten years at the Alaska Department of Revenue before moving to the D.C. region where he worked for several years for U.S. Senator Ted Stevens, and later as an I.T. Director for a Washington, D.C. law firm.
Kelly has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Washington, and a Master's degree in Public Administration from The American University.
