NIPP-NAI

Network Access Interfaces

Mission:

NIPP-NAI develops and maintains standards and technical reports for systems and associated interfaces, for high-speed bi-directional digital transport via metallic facilities (e.g., xDSL), home networking transceivers (MAC/PHY related), and for access to telecommunications networks through optical and electrical, analog and digital, interfaces. The work of this group focuses on physical layer functionality. NIPP-NAI makes recommendations to NIPP on related matters before US and international standards organizations.

Scope:

The scope of work undertaken by NIPP-NAI includes the development of standards and technical reports for transmission techniques, user interfaces, analog and digital interface functionality for access to telecommunications networks, DSL splitters/filters, and home networking transceivers (MAC/PHY related). It also includes the development of recommendations to NIPP on related subjects before other US and international fora. The work includes consideration and development of mechanical, optical, and electromagnetic characteristics of interfaces, and may include aspects of physical layer transmission interfaces and link-layer protocols. NIPP-NAI maintains a close and coordinated liaison, through NIPP, with other ATIS Committees and with external standards setting bodies.
